Our people

We are a young and progressive, yet experienced, team headed by the two Directors, Di Lund FAIA and Grant Hinds AIA, who successfully combine the experience of a well-established company with the vitality of fresh and appealing designs. Di and Grant have graduated from recognised universities and have been with the company for over 25 years and 15 years, respectively.

They are supported by a young, enthusiastic and talented team of architects, landscape architects, interior designers, graduate architects and technicians who are committed to the company and to the architecture that we, as a firm, create.

Sustainability

Sustainability in architectural design and buildings more broadly, should not be an add-on or optional extra. Sustainable building practices, energy efficient design and responsible materials selection are embedded parts of the way we think about our impact on the wider environment. We believe in the longevity of good design and are committed to a positive future for all, not just the short-term gain derived from any individual decision. We have a strong desire to contribute to the outcome of a project that the users embrace which provides genuine benefit to ensure it is used well into the future.

Our values

There are several philosophical and practical values and objectives that underpin the DesignInc Brisbane approach to every project and the overall betterment of our built environment.

Establishing relationships – Fundamental to the overriding architectural philosophy at DesignInc Brisbane is the need to develop strong partnerships between our clients and ourselves. Through doing this, we ensure that we develop a design solution that not only meets but also exceeds expectations.

Understanding needs – Part of a successful architectural outcome for every project is ensuring that all parties understand all needs influencing the design of the facility in question.

Defining goals – There are often competing and contradictory goals identified in establishing the needs of a complex client organisation. A vital aspect of the preliminary design stage of any project is determining which goals are from habit or adaptation of existing facilities and which ideas look forward to the organisation’s needs in the mid to long term to identify the approach that will deliver the best results for our clients and their teams.

Meeting targets – At DesignInc Brisbane, we meet targets by setting and executing strategies, allocating resources, and continuously monitoring and adjusting efforts to achieve the desired outcomes.

Social initiatives

Sustainability is an important consideration of our design process but also in the way we conduct our work. We are currently working toward certified carbon neutrality for DesignInc Brisbane.

We acknowledge the Turrbal and Jagera People as the Traditional Custodians of the land where our studio stands. We pay respect to the past, present and future Elders of this nation and the continuation of their cultural, spiritual and educational practices. Our ‘Reflect’ Reconciliation Action Plan outlines our commitment to partnering with First Nations Peoples. We aim to foster a deep appreciation and understanding of First Nations culture and incorporate this knowledge into the spaces we create.

Wellbeing is a continual consideration at DesignInc Brisbane. Our studio is a positive and supportive work environment for architects and employees, fostering work-life balance, providing opportunities for growth and development, and promoting physical and mental health initiatives. We regularly gather feedback and implement suggestions to improve the health and wellbeing of our team.
