Our Lady of the Sacred Heart College Indoor Sports + Dance Facilities

Our Lady of the Sacred Heart College has unveiled the first major phase of its campus reimagining, a multi-stage Masterplan developed in collaboration with DesignInc. This transformative project is intentionally designed to inspire and support students, fostering a strong sense of belonging, confidence, and exploration.
The new development significantly enhances the student experience, featuring a state-of-the-art gymnasium with indoor courts, a dedicated dance facility, modern classrooms, breakout spaces, and a newly expanded sports field. Guided by design principles of rhythm, illumination, confidence, and inclusivity, the architecture creates a dynamic and welcoming environment.

A dynamic hub for sports, dance and learning
Strategically positioned to integrate with existing outdoor sporting facilities and a future performing arts centre, the new gymnasium complex establishes a vibrant hub for developing and showcasing girls’ sporting and artistic talents. Its prominent location, visible from a major Adelaide arterial road, presents a striking and inviting face for the college.

A design that inspires and connects
Inside, a sense of calm and cohesion prevails. A restrained colour palette, emphasizing cream tones and timber finishes, creates visual harmony and comfort, and expansive windows flood the interior with natural light. Interconnected classrooms promote a unified learning environment, while adjacent breakout spaces and varied seating areas offer opportunities for both collaborative learning and quiet reflection, reinforcing a sense of belonging.
Versatile and inclusive spaces
Designed for adaptability, the building incorporates interactive screens, various seating options, and superior acoustic performance, ensuring a comfortable and versatile environment for numerous needs and activities. These purpose-built spaces support the diverse lifestyles, backgrounds, and learning styles of OLSH students, contributing to their intellectual, social, spiritual, and emotional development, as well as fostering success and passive social learning. Crucially, the design allows for seamless integration with Stage 2 of the Masterplan, guaranteeing a cohesive architectural experience throughout the campus.

A sustainable future for generations to come
Environmental consciousness is woven into every aspect of the design. Thoughtful shading, natural ventilation, and abundant natural lighting reduce environmental impact. A 100,000L rainwater tank slows and minimises, while smart temperature controls and energy efficient lighting controls enhance efficiency. Subterranean watering keeps the site’s gardens thriving, ensuring a balanced, sustainable environment. This project lays the foundation for a future where students thrive in a dynamic, inclusive, and sustainable environment, supporting their growth and development for years to come.

This project sets the stage for the future, supporting the growth and development of students in a dynamic, inclusive and sustainable environment.
