North Strathfield Station Upgrade
North Strathfield Station is an important prominent heritage and community landmark. A State Heritage listed Station with a landscaped garden at the Queen Street, North Strathfield Station was upgraded to provide new facilities to make it accessible, modern and welcoming. Three new lifts, new ambulant and family bathroom facilities, an upgraded kiss and ride zone, a new accessible parking space and security features such as CCTV.
The unique design challenge was integrating accessibility features into the existing heritage-listed site while working around constraints of a new below-ground freight corridor. A key feature is DesignInc’s clever design solution utilised one of the new lift shafts to anchor a suspended concrete truss above the freight tunnel while also structurally supporting the existing heritage-listed footbridge.
