Aspect Schools, Wetherill Park

Aspect Western Sydney School offers a safe, supportive learning environment for students on the autism spectrum—catering to over 160 students across Greater Western Sydney. The primary site, located at Wetherill Park, features six classrooms and amenities designed for specialised teaching, an administration building, and landscaped playgrounds.

The project involved refurbishing an existing single-story school building from the 1980s, tailored to enhance the learning experience for children.

Careful consideration was taken with the design of the learning areas. This included not only the selection of furniture, finishes, colours, textures and materials but also the sensory control such as acoustic treatments to classroom surfaces, improved environment control for ventilation, lighting, daylight control, acoustics and temperature control.

The result: a carefully crafted space fostering calm and warmth—a conducive learning environment for children with unique needs. Along with the new learning spaces, the campus masterplan was reconfigured to provide new landscaping and multiple playground areas with specific playground equipment which is under construction.

DesignInc delivered integrated architecture, interior design and landscape architecture services for the project, a sequential design piece to Aspect School’s Vern Barnett School in Forestville.
