Moreland Celebrates the Opening of Glenroy Community Hub
Moreland Mayor Mark Riley officially opened the Hub with a speech, following a Welcome to Country and smoking ceremony.
Glenroy Community Hub wins the best Public Building category at the 2022 Sustainability Awards.
The project set challenging goals from the beginning and on completion successfully became Passive House certified, while also built to achieve Living Building Challenge Petal Certification and Zero Energy Certification – a first for a community building in Australia.
The Hub’s centrepiece is a new contemporary library. Framing the Hub as a ‘social connector’ was a key strategy to build community resilience while bringing together diverse groups and encouraging community regeneration and inter-generational connection. The library is colocated with a kindergarten, Maternal Child Health, a community health provider, neighbourhood learning facilities, and space to socialise.
We are thrilled to see this project get the recognition it deserves. Congratulations to the dedicated team who bought this vision to life.
