Sydney Airport have released a first-look at the new $200M upgrade of T2 terminal.
Sydney Airport has unveiled the design vision for the overhaul of the T2 Domestic terminal, the first major redevelopment in more than three decades at Australia’s busiest domestic terminal.
With architecture and interior design led by DesignInc, the $200 million development is dedicated to vastly improving the passenger experience—actualised through enhanced check-in processes, next-generation security measures, associated baggage infrastructure upgrades, and refreshed airport amenities. The 17 million passengers that use T2 each year will welcome next-generation technology, modern facilities, and greater operational efficiency and once complete, it is anticipated that 95% of passengers will be able travel from the kerbside to airside in less than 15 minutes.
T2 Domestic Terminal is delivered in collaboration with Introba (Building Services and Fire Engineering), Arup (Facade, Civil and Specialist Lighting), Stantec (Acoustic Engineering), Aurecon (Structural Engineering and Vertical Transport), Maynard Design Consultancy (Signage, Wayfinding and Industrial Design) and Jensen Hughes (BCA and Access Consultant) for Sydney Airport.
Jane McGarry, Principal and Aviation Lead at DesignInc, said:
‘Our project design team has worked closely with Sydney Airport over a multi-year period to ensure the terminal is realised as a seamless passenger experience.
‘The passenger experience is about simplicity, safety and convenience. The T2 Domestic terminal upgrade achieves this through high-quality amenity, the latest in technological advancements, and a thoughtful, inclusive approach to design.
‘We’re proud to play an ongoing role in Sydney’s transport and mobility landscape, and this project represents the latest of our 20-year-plus design partnership with Sydney Airport.’
T2 Domestic is designed to support future demand, ensuring that Australia’s busiest airport terminal can accommodate the significant growth in passenger numbers forecasted by Sydney Airport.
