PHIVE—Parramatta Civic Hub has been recognised on the world stage by The Chicago Athenaeum and European Centre for Architecture, claiming a 2024 International Architecture Award in the Civic Centre category.

Over six levels, PHIVE is a community landmark changer for Parramatta—providing a wide range of cultural amenity and public services including a library, shared gathering spaces, events and exhibitions, café, and council chambers.

The project, designed by DesignInc, Lacoste + Stevenson and Manuelle Gautrand Architecture, was one of 130 awarded projects selected from around the world in 33 categories.

Richard Does, Project Director, said:

“Leading the team through architecture and engineering consultation, we developed a façade design that was not only poetic in its response to the Square and Old Town Hall, but is also a site-specific response to the environment for optimum energy efficiency.” said Richard.

PHIVE achieved a 6 Star Green Star Design & As Built v1.2 certification earlier this year, home to sustainability features including a tessellated roof façade with fully shaded windows, solar collectors and water harvesting, mixed-mode ventilation linked to the Bureau of Meteorology, and incorporation of the City of Parramatta’s 100% renewable electricity supply.

For its firm environmental agenda, PHIVE is named a finalist in the World Green Building Council’s APAC Leadership in Sustainable Design Awards.
