Now More Than Ever—Reflections from DesignInc Sydney’s National Reconciliation Week Panel

News / Studio News / Culture

On Wednesday 29 May, DesignInc Sydney hosted an esteemed panel and a host of clients and industry professionals as we unpacked this year’s National Reconciliation Week theme: ‘Now More Than Ever’.

This National Reconciliation Week, DesignInc Sydney were proud to have hosted a very full, very engaged room of industry professionals for discourse around this year’s theme—Now More Than Ever.

For the architecture and design industry, we are in such a privileged position to be able to contribute to reconciliation efforts. By prioritising time to seek out knowledge holders to further educate ourselves, by being aware of local histories, by listening and learning to local Elders and communities, and by building trusting relationships over time—we can deepen our connections to Country, to nature, and to each other.

The result is a more informed, inclusive and accurately curated built environment that champions reconciliation.

Our panellists included:

Reconciliation is about listening to First Nations people and we are fortunate to have Craig (Kerslake) show us how to start to understand looking at the world through a First Nations lens, and helping us build relationships with such great Indigenous community leaders. We had fantastic speakers, a fantastic turn out, and I think everyone left the event with a greater understanding of the culture, history, and achievements of Indigenous people.
