Celebrating 21 Years Together
Born from three Australian architecture and design practices coming together in 2000, DesignInc is a powerful union of design talent, professional expertise, and multidisciplinary skills.
Congratulations to Nic MacCormac on his recent promotion to Director of the DesignInc WA studio.
Nic has over 20 years’ experience across a wide range of sectors including transport, commercial, residential, education and mixed-use developments in Australia. He has also worked on projects internationally including the NATO Headquarters in Brussels and a two level fitout of the Swiss-Re Tower in London (the Gherkin) with Skidmore Owings, and Merrill (SOM).
Nic joined DesignInc in 2017 as a Principal under the guidance of former DesignInc Sydney Director Tony Quan and Principal Garth Davies with a focus on rail projects. He has also enjoyed working on other major aviation projects with Sydney Director Cathryn Drew-Bredin on Terminal 2 in Sydney and the Western Sydney Airport design competition.
My vision is to grow a positive legacy in the WA built environment in a number of contexts, scales, and specialist sectors, emulating the success of the Sydney, Adelaide and Melbourne studios.
Nic MacCormac
Director, DesignInc WA
Nic’s vision for the DesignInc WA studio is to ‘grow a positive legacy in the WA built environment in a number of contexts, scales, and specialist sectors, emulating the success of the Sydney, Adelaide and Melbourne studios.’
‘Last year we received a DA for 114 apartments in Cannington and anticipate progressing this one to Building Permit shortly. We also have the Curtin Institute of Radio Astronomy under construction at the moment. For me this project is personally significant having graduated from Curtin (in 1998) – I have a particular fondness for the Bentley campus and the time I spent there as a student and later as a tutor and lecturer.’
In addition to delivering Defence, multi-residential, and tertiary education projects, including interiors, Nic has been the driving force behind developing the Perth rail sector for DesignInc. Nic and his team have completed a number of design projects for the PTA on sites throughout the local rail network, including accessibility upgrades to seven stations, and platform extensions (catering for six car train sets) at 27 stations on the Fremantle and Armadale lines. ‘This has been somewhat of a homecoming for me having worked on rail projects in Victoria, Adelaide, and Sydney before being able to contribute to the rail network in my hometown of Perth.’
