Victoria Harbour Family and Children’s Services Hub

As Docklands’ first major community centre the Children’s Services Hub provides 150 new childcare places with a range of community facilities including; maternal and child health services, family counselling services, long day care and occasional care. Sited on the first level above a retail precinct the facility opens onto a private landscaped play area. The use of natural timbers and finishes throughout the building creates a domestic sensibility.

The Children’s Services Hub is part of a mixed-use precinct developed by Bovis Lend Lease in partnership with Lend Lease Developments, Melbourne City Council and Vic Urban. This Hub will be managed by Lady Gowrie Childcare, a not for profit organisation.

Designed to achieve Vic Urban’s ESD award of merit, the Hub was used as a pilot project to develop Vic Urban’s childcare specific ESD rating tools. Integrated into the building are a series of sustainable features including a living landscape, natural ventilation, low energy lighting, rainwater collection, solar hot water heating, vegetable garden, sun shading, and low emission non toxic finishes.
