Deakin University Australian Future Fibres Research and Innovation Centre [AFFRIC]

This development represents the research component of the Australian Future Fibres Research and Innovation Centre (AFFRIC), located within the existing Geelong Technology Precinct (GTP) building at the Waurn Ponds Campus of Deakin University, Geelong. AFFRIC represents a collaboration between the world class expertise of Deakin University & CSIRO, which will increase the research capacity of both organisations to service the textile and fibre industry.

This facility is critically linked to the commercial component of AFFRIC to be developed nearby on site, which will offer industrial-scale carbon fibre capability with no equivalent anywhere in the world.

The two level fit-out of remaining undeveloped/vacant space within the GTP building, incorporates new offices, meeting rooms, laboratories and support spaces. The amenity of the building is enhanced by upgraded envelope insulation, new windows with sunshading, light wells, internal transparency, and new landscaping to the building perimeter. Interiors have been developed to provide a stimulating and flexible environment that promotes collaboration between the mainly Post Graduate Researchers.
