Alfred Medical Research & Education Precinct

The Alfred Medical Research & Education Precinct integrates four institutions into one complex at the Alfred Hospital on Commercial Road, Prahran. The medical centres include: Baker Medical Research Institute, Macfarlane Burnet Centre for Medical Research, Monash Medical School Research Laboratories and the Alfred Library and Education Facilities.

The development of the precinct has evolved from a Feasibility Study undertaken in early 1998. This report was subsequently reviewed at a Value Management Study. Results from the second report revised the arrangement of buildings whilst retaining the individual identity of each organisation. Particular attention was given to maximising access to common facilities and incorporating strategies for the future expansion of each Institution.

In addition to the research laboratories and offices, the project includes major basement and rooftop animal houses.
